Lawyers....and lying.

I'm at that time of life where I have to decide what I want to do with myself. Which subjects I want to take, what I want to study in future, what I want to be when I 'grow up' (I never got that...we grow everyday lol).
So, I have decided that I would like to do a law degree at university.

I want to become a lawyer for a few reasons. First, I love arguing...sometimes i argue just for the sake of it :P and second, because i always WIN those arguments (99% of them anyway :P)

And, lots of people have told me that I’d make a great lawyer...my friends, teachers...and i never want to have to do something i don;t enjoy or im not good at..So law seems like the right thing for me.

One thing that is bothering me about becoming a lawyer is...that they sometimes have to LIE. Some people call it lying anyway...i call it twisting the truth...saying the TRUTH, but twisting it to your advantage and saying it in such a way that it helps you win a case. Technically, not lying :P

Some may say that's a stupid explanation, but it works for me :P

But, another problem is if you CAN'T choose your cases and you get a case that you don't like, or you have to defend an evil person - someone who you KNOW is guilty...what then?

Btw I want to be a criminal lawyer for a few years (a few being anything between 5 and 10) then become a human rights lawyer after that.

So the problem lies in the first years.

Let me know what you think ;)

The boycott

BOYCOTT ISRAELI PRODUCTS
BOYCOTT ISRAEL-SUPPORTING COMPANIES

^
I pretty much live by those two statements. And so should you :P

You can't argue the boycott. You can't justify not boycotting Israel. Unless you support them of course. If that's the case, then kindly stop reading my blog and go away, because i don't like you :P
But seriously, you can't say 'i support Palestine, but i wont boycott their oppressor, but its ok because i have my reasons!'

well, I'm telling you that your 'reasons' are wrong :)

The most common argument, the one i hear ALL the time (I'm getting kind of tired of it to be honest) is:

'We pay taxes to British/American/whatever country you live in government who use that money to fund Israel ANYWAY, so either way I'm giving money to them, so its ok if i buy a diet coke with my nestle chocolate bar, it wont make a big difference.'

ahem. it is NOT ok.
there is a difference with INDIRECTLY giving money to Israel via taxes, which we HAVE to pay. I'm not asking you to go to prison because you don't want to give a penny to Israel or the US. You know, i am a rational human being you know. I understand.
It's not your fault. You have no other choice but to pay those taxes.

HOWEVER
that doesn't mean that you don't boycott at all.
there's something called DIRECTLY giving money to Israel. It's when you go to Tesco or Asda or your local corner shop and in the fridge there's a choice of Coca Cola, Orange juice, Apple juice and Innocent Smoothies. And you choose the Coca Cola. (Innocent rocks btw)

COCA COLA IS ON THE BOYCOTT LIST.
If you have a choice, you do not choose the child-murdering, civilian-killing, house-demolishing option.
Because that's what it is.
Israel doesn't live on what these companies give them, but it certainly makes a difference. and when you don't buy those products, you make a difference too.

Another thing:
SUPERMARKETS.

I live in the UK and here we have a number of supermarkets. The most popular are Tesco, Asda, Marks & Spencers, Sainsburys, Co-op, Somerfield..to name a few.

All of these supermarkets support Israel in one way or another. Some just sell Israeli products, others have been proud supporters of Zionism from the beginning. It's tricky, but i say the solution to choose the better option, the lesser of two evils. So, read, research and draw your own conclusion. I know some people have no choice but to shop at these supermarkets, but always substitute. Don't buy fruit or vegetables grown in Occupied Territories, don't buy Israeli products. You always have a choice, remember.

Last thing, i promise :P
To those people who say 'i can't live without my Starbucks every morning' or 'but i hate anything other than coke!' or 'but come on, nestle rocks!'

I say to you: don't be so selfish. Would you dare say that to the orphan in Palestine whose parents were killed by a bulldozer bought from the money that COULD have come from you?? would you?
here's a secret: you CAN live without your coffee, you DON'T need that coke, you WON'T die if you have a Cadbury's instead of a Nestle product.
mmhmm. no kidding.

You have no excuse, really.
Unless you're dying of starvation and have nothing but a Kit Kat to survive on. I think it's ok then :P

ANYWAY
i hope you change your mind and DO start boycotting the illegal apartheid state known as Israel.
:)
